How ClassFlipbooks collects, uses, and safeguards information — yours and your students'.
Doing business with Education by Shala Books Inc. (“ESB”) through ClassFlipbooks (the products, materials, documents, and services provided through the website classflipbooks.com — collectively, the “Services”) involves providing information about yourself, and may involve handling personal information of students for whom you are responsible.
ESB has put in place the following Privacy Policy. ESB will continue to protect personal information derived from the Services consistent with laws and regulations issued by the Province of British Columbia and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
ESB will collect and use personally identifiable information for billing and transaction purposes, improvements to our Services and security, internal marketing purposes (we will not sell your information to other companies), resolution of problems with your account or other matters with our systems, and to collect anonymous information for our research and marketing.
ESB may also use your personally identifiable information to market new products and services to you that we think will be of interest to you if you consent in a manner consistent with the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), but we will never disclose your personally identifiable information to third parties.
You can expect us to protect your privacy. Your information and the business you do with us is kept in strict confidence. Only authorized personnel have access to your information. We don’t sell your information to third parties. Our procedures and systems are designed to protect your information from error, loss and unauthorized access. We keep your information only as long as it is needed.
You can give or withdraw your consent. We need to get your express or implied consent before obtaining or using information about you, or disclosing this information to anyone. (The exception is when we are required by law, or it is necessary for our protection.) You can withdraw this consent whenever you want, unless legal requirements prevent this.
You can review and make corrections to your information.
We may review and analyze your use of the Services to help protect you from unauthorized use of your accounts, to help us serve you better, and to tell you about other products and services. We also collect and analyze information from other sources for the same reasons.
In this policy, “cookie” means a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier, that is sent to your browser from a website’s computers and stored on your computer’s hard drive.
Any website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser’s preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites.
You can configure your browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or notify you when a cookie is set. (Each browser is different, so check the “Help” menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences.) If you reject all cookies, you may not be able to use the Services.
ESB uses cookies for a number of purposes, including to:
ESB will not sell, trade, or disclose to third parties any personally identifiable information derived from the registration for or use of the Services (except as required by court order, subpoena, search warrant, or other legal process or in the case of imminent physical harm to the customer or others). When ESB uses other agents, contractors, or companies to perform services on its behalf, ESB will ensure that the company protects your personally identifiable information consistent with this Privacy Policy.
ClassFlipbooks relies on the following third-party service providers to operate the Services. We have selected these providers because they offer appropriate protections for your information. Each provider has its own privacy policy, linked below, which we encourage you to review.
We do not send student names, student-generated work, or any student personal information to Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google. Those AI services are used only to generate book content authored by the teacher.
When a book includes interactive pages (handwriting, typing, drawing, audio recording, or photo upload), students fill these in on their own copy of the book. This student-generated work is stored in our database (Supabase) and is visible only to the teacher who owns the class. It is never shared publicly, never sold, and never used to train AI systems.
Audio recordings of students reading aloud are stored securely for playback and educational assessment purposes only. They are accessible only to the teacher who owns the class, are never shared publicly, and are never used to train AI systems.
Retention. Student work — including audio recordings — is automatically deleted twelve months after it was last saved. This keeps work available for the school year in which it was created, then clears it. Student work is also deleted sooner if the teacher deletes the class or closes their ClassFlipbooks account.
Speech-to-text. Some pages may let a person convert speech to text by tapping a microphone. This uses the web browser’s built-in speech recognition. The spoken audio is processed by the browser to produce text and is not stored by ClassFlipbooks. Depending on the browser, the audio may be processed by the browser vendor’s speech service to perform the transcription. Schools and districts with policies about sending student voice data to third-party services should review those policies before enabling speech features for students.
ESB has implemented technology and security features and policy guidelines to safeguard the privacy of your personally identifiable information from unauthorized access or improper use.
ESB will not read or disclose to third parties private e-mail communications that are transmitted using the Services except as required to operate the Services or as otherwise authorized by law.
ESB may also use personally identifiable information to investigate and help prevent potentially unlawful activity or activity that threatens the network or otherwise violates the customer agreement for that service.
If you are a customer with concerns about the ClassFlipbooks Privacy Policy or its implementation, you may reach us through our contact page.
ESB will keep this Privacy Policy current. The company will inform you of any changes that we make by sending you a notice at the e-mail account you have registered with us. It is important that you keep your e-mail account up to date, and that you set your filter to accept e-mail from ESB.
In addition to the general Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, of which this Detailed Consent forms a part, you confirm, consent, and agree as follows:
In using the Services (defined in the Terms of Use), including but not limited to the ClassFlipbooks software, you may be using and disclosing the personal information of students for which you are responsible.
Such use and disclosure by you and use (including storage and processing) by us requires consent.
While ESB is based in British Columbia, Canada, and this is governed by the laws of British Columbia, some jurisdictions require compliance with their local information protection laws as well. Depending on your jurisdiction, the requirements and type of consent may differ. In some jurisdictions, consent may be implied and in other jurisdictions, consent must be express. Implied consent is consent that is reasonably inferred from the circumstances under which you obtained the relevant information, such as the relationship of student to teacher. Express consent is consent that specifically permits your use of student information for purposes such as the Services.
By electronically agreeing, you:
