Christina Shala began her career teaching FSL and French Immersion in Canadian schools before taking on a language coordinator role at an international school in Jakarta — an experience that reshaped how she thought about curriculum design, differentiation, and what it actually means to build something genuinely useful for a classroom.
Throughout her career, she kept running into the same problem: finding the right reading material for the student in front of you is hard. The right level, the right language, the right topic — and often the closest match needed to be adapted, rewritten, or simplified before it actually fit. So she learned to make her own.
Over time, that habit grew into a body of work: the Education by Shala Books brand, a suite of published workbooks and graded readers, the Empowering the Educator Within podcast and blog, and a set of digital platforms built to give teachers the tools she wished she'd had.
ClassFlipbooks grew directly from the experience of trying to find the right book for the right student — and not finding it. It was built to give teachers a fast, flexible way to make the books their class actually needs, without spending an evening on it.
